Aslan is a lion – the Lion, the Great Lion

“Aslan is a lion- the Lion, the great Lion.” “Ooh” said Susan. “I’d thought he was a man. Is he-quite safe? I shall feel rather nervous about meeting a lion”…”Safe?” said Mr Beaver …”Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”

C.S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

Fall 2013 1223 aslan

We had the privilege of celebrating the life of C.S. Lewis.  The anniversary of his death was on November 22.  (I am experimenting with homeschool and how to organize our time.  I love making the most of each opportunity and feel like there are so many learning opportunities in Canada!)  This being said, we did a whirlwind study on the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis.  We read the book together, did a project on the book and Gideon read the entire Chronicles of Narnia in a week!  We ended the week by going to see the play put on by Steinbach Bible College.  Adam also took the boys to a celebration party at another local Bible college (where we are alumni…fun, but they have changed their name and I have no idea what it is now so it shall remain…a local Bible college) where they dressed up (like Aslan of course!!), ate treats from the book (Turkish delight of course!!) and watched a part of the movie while toasting to the life of C.S. Lewis as if they were at Cair Paravel!  It was a fun week, probably should have been longer, but I was really impressed how even the youngest got right into the books and still talk about things that happened in Narnia!
